Internship

As part of Clemson University’s Language and International Business program, it is required to complete an internship with an international company.  I completed my internship virtually during the summer of 2023 and continued to work with Cardinal Health, a global healthcare and pharmaceutical company based in Dublin, Ohio.

My responsibilities as a global trade intern at Cardinal were based entirely off of what was needed of me and what projects were most vital.  Over the course of my experience, I have worked on both the EDI & Data Analytics team as well as the FTA & Special Programs team.  Some of my more important projects include FTA Solicitation, which involves communicating with suppliers in order to qualify certain products under various free trade agreements such as USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada agreement) with the overall goal to save money in duties and tariffs.  Another similar project would be the Opportunity Assessment Analysis which was an investigation to determine which products we could classify under various special programs in the future to determine how much more money could potentially be saved the following year.

Overall, I truly value my time at Cardinal Health, as this position has given me a real glimpse into the world of global trade and aside from simply increasing my knowledge on free trade agreements, it has allowed me to hone basic professional skills such as microsoft excel usage, team collaboration, and basic communication skills.
